From our reviewers
In “The Hourglass Paradox,” Dr. Andrew Koh explores time travel, echoing the Bible, specifically Revelation 13:16-17. It goes as far back into the past, returns to the present, and future. The book explores how man is obsessed with technology and what might go wrong if wicked people take control. The story follows Josephine, who uses her grandpa’s key to unlock the doors that lead to places anyone would fear going into, but Josephine, given her line of work and brevity, walks past the door…and returns. For readers who’ve known Andrew for his religious contributions, this book tells us the other side of Andrew. Here, Andrew weighs in on technology, exploring themes relevant to the present rise of AI and machines. As mankind’s fascination with technological developments grows, they continue to sever its relationship with God. This is one of the lessons learnt as Josephine’s adventure continues. In a nutshell, while this book entertains, it should give us pause; rather, an opportunity to think profoundly of artificial intelligence and the future. The book’s beginning hooks. The reader meets the people of Hourvault city and Chronos Keeper, a building that everyone avoids. This arouses the reader’s curiosity. For instance, what’s inside this house? Is the story accessible to all? Absolutely. The writing is clear and interactive. The plot is also easy to follow. Very little, or nothing at all, to be done to stop Josephine once she finds her purpose. She needs to change humanity’s course, and she’ll do so no matter the consequences and circumstances. So, regarding characterization, Dr. Andrew has done a commendable job. Who should read the book? First, this short read suits all readers, be they Christians or sci-fi fans. Dr. Andrew doesn’t focus so much on the scientific aspects of time travel, and that's its strength.
