From our reviewers
Sonny is fed up with being treated poorly and taken advantage of. While bartending at Lucky's Bar, the local weed dealer, Bobby Dawkins, enters with two of his followers. Bobby throws insults at Sonny, pushing his tolerance to the limit. Finally, he snaps. Sonny uses a pool stick to physically assault Bobby, injuring him and breaking the arm of one of Bobby's followers. Sonny quits his job, and the bar owner, Larry, sides with Bobby and bans him from the bar. Sonny goes home. He watches a documentary about MC gangs, and an idea begins to form in his mind. The following evening, he goes to the local strip club with Mikey, Johnny Boy, and Scott. Inside the strip club, Sonny pitches his idea of forming their own outlaw biker gang. Scott immediately agrees, but Mikey and Johnny are reluctant to make a decision. They continue to debate the idea. When Sonny declines a stripper's attention, two drunk men at a nearby table start heckling them. However, before any further conflict arises, a bouncer intervenes and escorts Sonny and his friends out of the club. Fuming, Sonny says the occasion is an opportunity to prove they were not going to be treated like trash. When the two drunks exit the club, Sonny and his friends attack them. The following morning, Scott, Mikey, and Sonny form the Lawless Legion MC gang. Johnny Boy refuses to be an outlaw, but that doesnt slow them down. It doesnt take long for the gang to take on the tasks needed to rule Pinecrest. Patrick Kleins The Lawless Legion MC is a book told from Sonnys point of view. Living in a run-down trailer park, Sonnys life has always been difficult. He was always considered a misfit and had become friends with Scott, Mikey, and Johnny Boy. They bonded over their shared childhood experiences, all coming from broken homes and impoverished backgrounds. Scott worked at a convenience store, Mikey was a mechanic, and Johnny Boy worked at a gas station. None of them were happy with their dead-end jobs. Since all four of them had criminal charges for being part of barroom brawls, they needed to change their outlook on life. The initial setup of the story effectively laid the foundation for the novel. The vivid detail of Sonnys surroundings gave a dark element that added depth to the book. It made Sonnys trailer easy to picture, filled with cigarette smoke, stale air, and littered with beer cans. Every character was developed with distinct personalities. For example, Scott was a promiscuous storyteller. Most of his stories were crude tales of his sexual exploits with trashy women. Another member of the group, Smokey, was a silent observer. While he didnt say much, he carried out his assigned tasks with calculated efficiency. The details gave the essential information to connect with the characters without slowing down the pace of the story. I recommend this book to mature adult readers who like reading books from the perspective of a growing criminal. The profanity, sexual content, and violence are not appropriate for younger people. The realistic qualities of this fiction book add to the appeal that earns it an easy five-star rating. I liked how the ending wasnt rushed and left an option for a possible sequel. Some of the antagonists were dealt with, but I could see the outlaw club could face more obstacles in the future.
