From our reviewers
Describing my feelings about this book wasn't an easy one as the book was full of authentic emotions. No one was pretending, as it was all purely human emotions. North East of Eden is an heartfelt memoir about a desperate father in a legal battle to see his two kids. The story captures the bond between a father and child in such a touching way. The story which seems to start with light memories of family holidays and the laughter unravels into issues of a justice system that strained the family. His wife, Agnes, who unexpectedly ran away to a women refuge decided to manipulate the legal system after using what he called a 'right -wing feminist cartel' to separate him from his children. The conflict was presented as a battle of how his relationship with the children could cause domestic violence, emotional abuse and coercive control. The narrative throws light on the ugly side of the legal system even with very little societal support. It portrays the hardships that a family has to endure while they teach on the subject of love. I commend Gabor for a beautiful read. The narrative was smooth and mirrored real life. This is a father's love theme and ideal for young adults who love real account of family.
by Ayomide AkinfolarinNorth East of Eden by Gabor Szabo is an interesting memoir of one family undergoing both happy and challenging events. The book starts with light memories of family holidays and the laughter and innocence of children. Gradually, the story unravels into more serious issues, such as problems in relationships, stress, and the experience of a justice system that strained the family. In spite of these tests, the core of the book is love, strength, and the connection that holds them together. The most remarkable thing is that the memoir is a combination of honesty and hope. But the family faces obstacles but still shines through the love. I started thinking about the significance of unity and perseverance and how even a few minutes of laughter can help get rid of heavy burdens. The author has a simple and heartfelt writing style, making the story easy to follow. The pacing is stable, not in a hurry, and every moment has the necessary amount of time. While reading, I did not feel disoriented reading through the story since it flows smoothly between events. I am moved by the emotional content of the story, particularly when the children were put in circumstances they could not deal with. The book is ideal for both young and older adults who love real-life accounts of family, strength, and personal development. It is easy to read, emotionally involving and memorable. I highly recommend giving it a read.
