From our reviewers
Love isn’t always the answer is not merely a memoir, rather it’s a narrative about the impact of narcissistic abuse on a person’s life. Authored by Shelley Lynne Levisay, an attorney by profession, she profoundly describes how the relationship which once seemed romantic turned into a real nightmare. This memoir narrates the author’s experience in a very intimate manner providing necessary trigger warnings (wherever applicable) throughout the book. Her words are raw, bold, vulnerable, yet powerful enough to refuse the romanticisation of pain and suffering in love relationships. By narrating her abusive relationship with Matthew, she does a commendable job of explaining the reasons and contributing factors for mental health issues like personality disorders, narcissism, codependency, and their impact on a person‘s overall well-being. Although, the book offers a great amount of information in the context of abusive relationships and self-help topics, it does contain a lot of grammatical errors. While reading the book, one may get annoyed due to the abruptness of the sentences. Though, it’s a worthwhile read, however, if you’re someone with similar traumatic experiences, then you must practice caution and read trigger warnings before reading the content of the book.
