Like a Lily Among the Thorns by Karen S. Bell tells the story of Gabby, a girl in her twenties living in New York. Despite her smile and attempts to be optimistic, they were just things she was practicing. She believes that happiness is a choice. Her childhood left a huge impact on her psyche, to the point that she began to imagine the people around her as if they were her uncle or mother. Gabby hasn't heard anything from her father since he left her and her mother when she was 12. Suddenly, she received a message telling her that he had died and left her an inheritance that included money and the Possum Trot Lane Inn in Vermont. The BB that has a magical effect on everyone who enters it. What appears to be a new life opportunity for Gabby, and with her belief, the universe is charting a path for her to a new future, but is everything as simple as it appears? The author drew characters who helped to show Gabby's need for a family and support, such as Countess Ivanova, who was a big and important part in changing Gabrielle's life. Other characters: some of them are main, and some of them are supporting. Like Mark Davies, Captain Jim, Mrs. Jones, and Beau. The author gives us a part of each character's background, so we know where they came from and the background behind their actions. As simple as the story may seem at first, the plot paints a world that is as much imaginary as it is connected to the reality we live in, with climate change and negative energy and how that affects all the creatures around us. The descriptions of the places and the surroundings, like New York City with its crowding and changing, the inn with its inner details, the lake next to it, the charming nature, and the trip to London, are beautiful points that are vivid enough to raise my enthusiasm to complete the story. Misconception is one of the main themes that affects the storyline. Besides themes like family, past life, cosmos, goddesses, climate change, and love. The author uses simple language and a narrative writing style. The pace was a bit slow even as the events progressed. The romantic side and the plot twist were good touches and freshened up the story. The layout of my copy was like the hardcover, which isn't suitable for reading from a device, as the pages were small and needed to be zoomed in. The story will be enjoyable for those who love quiet reading and the connection of events with a sudden change in course, starting with young adults.
