From our reviewers
The author mixes funny moments with tense ones and kept me entertained, always wondering what would happen next as I read. The relationship between Garrison and Hara is also nice to read about. I think the author's way of writing is easy to understand and connect with. Garrison Chase is a guy who is good at finding lost stuff. Also, his relationships with Carrie are interesting and easy to like. Their love story amazed me a lot. There are some quiet moments in the book that I liked. One of them is when Carrie shares a special memory of Gene with Garrison through chocolate. It's a touching moment that adds to the narrative. The part where Chase said something that got my attention was: "I don't want to live in a world that allows those people to thrive." Got my attention. And when he texted 911 while stuck in the cab, it showed he's smart and wants to get out of a bad situation. The book also creates a cool futuristic world; the cultural details in it, like the mention of the Baghdad Battery and the special chocolate, make the story even more fun to read and interesting. There is a lot to this book. Grab it and enjoy more exciting moments in it. You will be entertained from the very first page until the very end.
by Gladys NakoteChasing Betty by Jason Prugar follows Garrison Chase, an army deserter who earns a living by finding lost items and people. He is a friend of a former colleague who owns a bar and he'd receive letters from his mother updating him on how she and her younger son are doing. All is going well, but then he gets a job that’s bound to test how far he can go to unearth the truth. While he’ll be able to kiss his financial troubles goodbye, at least for a good while, this job sounds risky, and what's more, the client isn’t forthright and is dangling a carrot—a promise to make Chase’s problem with the Army go away. With a child involved, Chase is left with no choice but to chase after Betty. Chasing Betty draws its strength from a wonderful cast of characters, an easy-to-follow twisted plot, and great writing, just the kind capable of sucking the readers in. In terms of characters, we have Garrison, who is quite amusing. He has what it takes to be a private investigator, as well as a kind heart. His first assignment entices readers and demonstrates his fondness for beautiful women. Carrie is not only attractive but also intelligent, capable of figuring things out and delving deeper into her role. The plot is also well-developed, hooking readers right away as they meet a guy who dislikes Thursday and is great at his trade. Sure, Prugar's writing is also impressive; the sentences are mostly short and convey a deeper sense of humor. Also worth mentioning is the world in which the story unfolds. Things have changed a little around here, especially after "the internet went dark" and the World Union took over. Chasing Betty is a must-read for anyone who loves a perfect blend of investigation, action, a little bit of romance, and a father-daughter relationship.
by Emily DachoIf you're looking for an adventure novel full of suspense, then Chasing Betty is for you. Chasing Betty is an amazing novel by Jason Prugar. I love this novel so much because it creates a memorable image and experience in my head. The story revolves around redemption, courage, and adventure. The story talks about a man named Garrison Chase, who was formally a private investigator. He then gets hired by a wealthy, well-known man called J. Seneca Dean to pick up the case of his missing daughter. They were things that Garrison hated and detested, but when he got hired, he had to put his feelings behind him to get the work done. Betty and her grandson's disappearance becomes a mystery to Garrison as he goes all out to rescue them. I love the front cover of the book and also the suspense the author brings to the readers. I also love the character Garrison, whose personality of hating water, rudeness, and Thursdays makes him unique. I also love the twist in the novel, which I wouldn't mention for the sake of not spoiling the story, and I enjoyed the cinematic flow of the story line. I don't dislike anything about this book; it was well written, and we'll edit it. The message the author was trying to pass was well received. Unlike other books, I would recommend this book to anyone who loves adventures, and I would give it a 5-star rating.
by Sele Emmy'Chasing Betty' by Jason Prugar is a suspense thriller on the life of Garrison Chase, a guy who prefers soda to beer and would do anything to protect women, family or otherwise, to a fault. Garry works odd jobs that involve cleaning other people's mess to the extent that some call him a janitor. His pay is low but helps him get by. His days can sometimes be mundane, and his love life is nothing to speak of until one day when a well-known tycoon needs his help. In return, the tycoon offers to help Gary sort out an issue that keeps him from his family and twice his daily wage for the days he'll be on task. The tycoon only asks for discretion, but Gary feels there's something off with the deal. This suspense thriller by Prugar is short but sweet. The story's pace starts slow, but the tension typical of suspense thrillers builds up right to the end; the author offers a surprising turn of events as the story progresses. The story is in first-person narrative, so Gary is the storyteller. Supporting characters work well with the main plot. There is also a bit of humor and emotional tension, which work well throughout the story. The setting is also fitting, as the author sets the events in a post-Migration America, with diminished surveillance and stringent gun control rules. A downside to this story lies in the dialogues that contribute to suspense buildup. The author rushes the suspense in some dialogues, specifically when Carrie and the protagonist give intimate details of their work just minutes after meeting each other. The situation with Decker and Dean is also solved rather quickly. There is inconsistency in one scene where the protagonist meets with the Mexican doctor and gives him his number, while before this, the protagonist had his phone taken away. The book has an unlikely ending but given the storyline and situation the protagonist is in; it is understandable and just okay. I recommend this book to lovers of suspense thrillers.
by Yvonne Oloo"Today is my lucky day. It’s rare that one of the last truly well-known and powerful CEOs on the planet wants to meet you. I didn’t own a suit or tie, so I put on my favourite button-down shirt and jeans. The man in the mirror told me my shirt was a little tight. Hey, when you do PT every day at 5am in the military and one day you don’t have to anymore, you’ll let yourself go, too. The least I could do, especially if this was about a job, is look presentable. Why else would J. Seneca Dean want me?" Garrison Chase is an army soldier who became a fugitive for running away from his duty while he was on active duty in Iraq. Years passed since he left home, leaving his mother and brother behind, until he decided to become a private investigator because it was his best option at the time. His life is about to change after he gets a request from a very powerful man, J. Seneca Dean, who asks him to find his daughter and her son, Beatrix Sisko (Betty) and Timmy. And the journey begins... The genre of this book is mystery, thriller & suspense that makes anyone who reads it will be curious about each chapter. The description of the situation written by the author made my imagination come alive, I felt the tension experienced by Chase when the bounty hunter who used to be his Commander Officer caught him while he was pretending to be a taxi driver or when the Mercenary with his boots walked up to Chase who was hiding in Bertha's office. Although there were some parts that made me grumpy because I thought Chase was very slow and not very good at martial arts so he was repeatedly knocked down by his opponents, but he was very brave and not rash in making decisions. From this book I can conclude that all actions that have been made must be accounted for because we cannot forever run away from reality. Because taking responsibility means you can live your life the way you want without having to hide and be afraid to meet someone. A light reading but not too light that successfully made me unable to get out of bed because I couldn't stop reading it. The author uses simple language so that anyone who reads it will definitely understand, my mother language is not English but I can understand and comprehend everything the Author wants to conveyed. Thank you, Mr. Prugar I enjoy your book
