The author’s story was so moving to read that I binge straight from beginning to end. The book follows the story of Lara Gelya from Ukraine taking us through the good and bad - immigration, family struggles, love, loss, and finding her way to a better life. ‎ ‎Narrating her life journey as an immigrant, a mother, a grandmother, and an independent woman from Ukraine to the Kyzylkum Desert of Uzbekistan (then a part of the Soviet Union), Starting with her process of immigration, her struggle to re-establish herself in a foreign country, her effort to learn the new language, to finding steady employment, having a family, and all the way through retirement ‎ ‎The author does not just recount events; she immerses you in the emotions, the fears, and the hopes that defined her early years. ‎ ‎Camel from Kyzylkum is a beautiful story about perseverance and determination to seek a better life under extreme tribulation. It describes the struggles that many people face as they are uprooted from their homelands. ‎ ‎The themes of hope, the American Dream, and overcoming adversity were well represented in the story. ‎ ‎One lesson this story taught me was "We never know where life will take us sometimes. It can be miles away from home but Life's Journey is a paragon of resilience, endurance, perseverance and humility" ‎ ‎I definitely recommend this book

We never know where life will take us sometimes. It can be miles away from the land where we take our first breath like this memoir of Lara Gelya, Camel From Kyzylkum: A Memoir Of My Life Journey. Born in Vinnitsa, Ukraine but spends 20 years of her life in Uzbekistan, working as a geophysicist. She starts her own family living either in a little settlement or real apartment. A family of four faces different battles like surviving in the desert, having no permanent residence, and her diagnosed with benign tumor in her right kidney. A polemic and sanguine Lara travels coast to coast switching jobs, looking for greener pasture, creating friendships and finding love along the way. She finds home in Florida with peace and happiness. Camel From Kyzylkum: A Memoir Of My Life Journey is a paragon of resilience, endurance, perseverance and humility. It is another memoir that introduces an inspiring life path in both of life's success and adversity. Lara is a mirror of a woman, mother, wife, friend, workmate and colleague. She is an effective and heart touching storyteller in her narrative being intimate and connecting using visuals. Hence I give a four-star rate for this book for the above-mentioned remarks. I proudly recommend to all readers. Definitely worth a read. Author's life experiences and the themes are treasure chest to heed in our own's life journey.

Camel from Kyzylkum: A Memoir of My Life Journey by Lara Gelya is a story of courage, transformation, and growth. The author guides readers through their early years in Ukraine, twenty years of working in the Kyzylkum Desert, and a daring emigration to the United States with nothing but dreams in their pocket.   It is easy to follow the descriptions of the desert and visualize it. The author does a good job of describing the red sands and living in one of the most hostile climates on the planet. These comparisons to camels are the most touching; the author had to learn how to overcome adversities as these marvelous creatures do.   This memoir appears most suitable for adults and younger readers who like to read real-life and success stories and those interested in gaining cultural knowledge.   The cover is neat and appropriate to the story; it suggests something about the role of the desert in the authors narrative. The font has a size and is well laid out and spaced, and as a result, reading through the memoir is comfortable. It does not appear to lack parts, and thus the reader is left feeling fulfilled and motivated.   The author does a good job of making the language simple but still engaging and sharing the story interspersed with personal ponderings.    Camel from Kyzylkum is a powerful true story that will be a great read for people who like memoirs about overcoming and transformation. Its a story worth reading.
